Nicolas Cage told an audience at New York Comic Con on Saturday that he is likely to appear in the next season of HBO's True Detective, the Independent reports.
What happened
Cage, 62, appeared on stage at the convention and said he can only make a limited number of movies back‑to‑back, so he is "probably going to do another season of television." He described himself as the first to announce the news, comparing his microphone moment to director Jonathan Turteltaub’s announcement of National Treasure 3. Cage also mentioned refusing to sign a waiver that would allow AI to be used in the production of his recent Amazon series Spider‑Noir, questioning the studio’s AI policies.
What was said
During the panel Cage said, "I think I might do a season of True Detective. That's OK that I'm the first to announce that, right?" He added, "How do you survive AI? Amazon is a very AI‑friendly company… I am not an AI‑friendly actor. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider‑Noir." The Independent attributes these remarks to Cage himself and notes they were reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
How it came about
The speculation follows earlier reports that Cage was in talks to join the series, which is set to be written by Issa López, the showrunner of the fourth season, Night Country. The next season is expected to arrive on screens in 2027.
