India's luxury electric car market grew 61% year‑on‑year, reaching 5,404 EVs in FY2026, according to industry and Vahan retail data, deccanchronicle.com reported. Mercedes‑Benz India said it secured more than 650 bookings for its electric GLC SUV after opening reservations on Oct 5, ahead of the model’s market launch on Nov 4 and deliveries slated for mid‑November. The GLC 400 4MATIC will be assembled locally at the Chakan plant near Pune.

Mercedes‑Benz’s Santosh Iyer highlighted the strong demand, noting the 650+ expressions of interest were logged within 36 hours. He added that BEV sales rose 16% year‑to‑date through September 2026, driven by the CLA BEV’s 1,000+ confirmed orders and a 68% YTD increase for the EQS Maybach SUV.

Overall, the Indian auto industry sold 36,108 electric cars in September 2026, led by Tata Motors. In the luxury segment, BMW posted 502 units (36% growth), Tesla 291 units, and Mercedes‑Benz 125 units.
