A ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, brokered by U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, is still being observed in the Russian‑occupied city of Oleshky, Ukrainian officials said on Thursday. The truce, now in its third day, has allowed military units to clear landmines and is set to enable the arrival of humanitarian aid on Friday.

Melania Trump said in a statement that Oleshky’s “remaining population is comprised primarily of elderly residents who urgently need medical attention, medicine, food and clean water,” adding that without her intervention the delivery of aid would have been impossible. The White House earlier announced her role in securing the temporary pause in fighting.

Ukrainian ombudsman Dmyrio Lubinets told the press the ceasefire had lasted 54 hours and that no violations had been reported. Russian human‑rights ombudswoman Yana Lantratova confirmed the truce was holding and said Russian engineers were de‑mining roads to prepare a safe passage for the convoy.

Both sides thanked the First Lady for her involvement, and Pope Leo XIV also called for a truce in the area. Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry reported downing 1,214 Ukrainian drones overnight, while Ukraine said Russia launched 112 drones at seven locations across the country.
