The move comes as head coach Michael Locksley seeks to steady a struggling program.

Maryland announced Sunday that defensive coordinator Ted Monachino has been fired, a day after the Terrapins fell 37-30 to Rutgers on Homecoming, marking their fifth straight defeat.
The Terrapins (2-5, 0-4 Big Ten) were up 23-13 at halftime before Rutgers rallied with 24 unanswered points. Maryland has now lost 12 straight Big Ten games and allowed an average of 43.8 points during the five-game skid.
Head coach Michael Locksley said in a statement, "I appreciate Ted’s hard work and dedication to our program during his time in College Park. As I evaluate our program, I believe this change is necessary. We wish Ted all the best moving forward."
Locksley will promote cornerbacks coach Aazaar Abdul‑Rahim to defensive coordinator, while inside linebackers coach Zac Spavital will serve as co‑defensive coordinator. The team has an open date before hosting Illinois on Oct. 31.
