Joe Hahn, Linkin Park’s creative director, has taken the helm of the band’s latest documentary, Unshatter, which premiered in limited release on 30 September. The film opens with footage of the band’s São Paulo concert on 15 November 2024, the day the group’s comeback album From Zero was released, and then follows the band’s journey back together after the death of vocalist Chester Bennington in 2017.

Documentary’s Concept and Production

Hahn explained to Billboard that the original idea was simply to film the São Paulo show, but he felt that “everything deserved an explanation.” He said the documentary was a “healing process” for the band, allowing them to reflect on what went right and to share the story of how they “got back on our feet.” The film includes the two shows the band played on 16 November, each attended by nearly 97,000 fans at Allianz Parque.

Band’s Reformation and Recent Success

Linkin Park returned to the studio in 2024 with the album From Zero, which produced three No. 1 singles on the Mainstream Rock chart and earned two Grammy nominations. The band’s comeback has been described as one of rock’s top stories of the decade, with sales of more than 100 million records worldwide and five No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200.

Personal Reflections

Hahn reflected on the emotional toll of Bennington’s suicide and the band’s subsequent hiatus. He noted that the group had been “moving, moving, moving since we were kids” and that the end of their career in 2017 left them with feelings of loneliness and embarrassment. He added that the band’s reunion was driven by empathy, openness and shared experiences that allowed them to “pick up where we left off.”
