Cristian Mungiu’s Palme d’Or‑winning film “Fjord” will open the Jakarta World Cinema Festival, the Indonesian organizers announced on Thursday.
The eight‑day main program runs at CGV Grand Indonesia in Jakarta from Oct. 31 to Nov. 7, followed by parallel editions in Bandung (CGV Paris Van Java) and Malang (Cinepolis Town Square) from Nov. 14 to 21. An online selection will be streamed via KlikFilm from Oct. 31 to Nov. 21.
The festival’s 2026 slate includes 207 titles from 69 countries, of which 120 have already won awards at major festivals. Asian cinema accounts for 96 films, women directed 41, and 20 titles are official entries for the International Feature category at the 99th Academy Awards.
Venice Golden Lion winner “Woman Unknown” by May el‑Toukhy and Venice Special Jury Prize winner “NAZA” by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor will screen alongside Cannes Grand Prix winner “Minotaur” (Andrey Zvyagintsev) and Cannes best‑actress prize winner “All of a Sudden” (Hamaguchi Ryusuke). The Berlinale Golden Bear winner “Yellow Letters” (Ilker Çatak) will be part of the online program, and Jesse Eisenberg’s directorial debut “The Debut” is also on the slate.
Festival director Shandy Gasella said securing the Palme d’Or, Golden Bear and Golden Lion winners in a single year is a “monumental milestone” for the event and a “rare and vital passport” for Indonesian cinephiles. Cinematographer Tudor Vladimir Panduru, who worked on “Fjord,” will lead a masterclass for local filmmakers.
