Israeli drone strike wounds six in Lebanon’s Hermel district

The Lebanese health ministry says the attack targeted a vehicle near the Syrian border, an area largely spared since a June cease‑fire.

Israel’s military said a drone hit a car in Lebanon’s Hermel district, close to the Syrian border, wounding six people, the Lebanese health ministry reported on Friday.

The ministry identified five Syrian nationals – including two women – and one Lebanese citizen among the injured.

State‑run National News Agency (NNA) added that the area has largely escaped attacks since an Israel‑Hezbollah cease‑fire was agreed in June.

Israel claimed the strike hit a “Syrian terrorist” operating under Iran’s direction, alleging he planned attacks against Israeli forces in southern Syria.

Since the ouster of President Bashar al‑Assad in December 2024, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria and continues to operate in security zones along the Lebanese border.

Syria’s President Ahmed al‑Sharaat told the UN General Assembly last month that Israel has conducted 500 air strikes, more than 1,200 incursions and 300 detentions in Syria, and urged withdrawal and adherence to the 1974 UN separation agreement.
