Iran downplays alleged IRGC role in Houthi gains in Yemen

Tehran rejects claims that the IRGC directed the Houthis' recent victories in western Yemen.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Iranian officials said they are not directing the Houthis' recent military successes in western Yemen, despite US media reports linking the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the offensive that secured Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the port city of Mocha.

According to the Al Jazeera analysis, unnamed officials and soldiers said IRGC advisers helped front‑line commanders with communications and satellite‑intelligence analysis, and promised ongoing support. The IRGC described the advances as a “divine triumph,” while President Masoud Pezeshkian told Al Jazeera he rejected any connection between Iran and the Houthi actions and urged both Saudi Arabia and the Houthis to negotiate an end to the war.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this month dismissed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s claim that the Houthis act as an Iranian proxy, emphasizing the humanitarian impact of the Saudi blockade on Yemen.
