Five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait‑flagged crude‑oil tanker MT Kazimah III were shifted ashore after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Embassy of India in Oman said on X on Friday.

The embassy’s post said the rescue was coordinated with Omani authorities, who provided support during the operation. "Earlier today, the Mission coordinated rescue of five Indian nationals on board the Kuwait‑flagged tanker MT Kazimah III, struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. All 5 Indian nationals have been shifted ashore safely," the embassy wrote.

The tanker, sailing under Kuwait’s flag, was en route to Lomé in Togo when the incident occurred. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters that more than 4,500 Indian seafarers are currently on commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf region, including 163 on twelve active cargo ships. He added that the Ministry of Shipping, together with Indian diplomatic missions and local stakeholders, continues to monitor vessel movements and seafarer welfare, and will act as needed to ensure their safety.

Jaiswal emphasized India’s commitment to the well‑being of its seafaring community abroad, noting that the ministry remains ready to respond to any further incidents in the area.
