Gary Cosay, a co‑founder of United Talent Agency (UTA), died on Oct. 5 at his home in Carmel, California, at age 92, Variety reported.
What happened
Cosay, who began his career in the late 1960s as an assistant at William Morris Agency, later helped form several agencies that merged into UTA in early 1991. He was not active with UTA for several years before his death but remained a mentor to current partners. The family requested no public memorial service; donations may be directed to the SPCA of Monterey County.
What the reports add
Variety noted that Cosay represented writers behind 1980s‑1990s hits such as Fox’s “Married … with Children” and ABC’s “The Wonder Years,” “Growing Pains,” and “The Drew Carey Show.” He also described the process of getting a show on air as “like hitting a single,” adding that a lasting series is “like hitting a home run.” In recent years, Cosay was active in animal rescue, saving many dogs, including greyhounds from abusive racing conditions.
What was said
Jay Sures, partner and vice‑chairman of UTA, said, “Gary Cosay was a true original whose integrity, and extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” as quoted by Variety.
