Former FTX chief operating officer Constance Wang told Cointelegraph that the opening 30 seconds of Netflix’s upcoming drama trailer "upset me" and caused her to stop watching.
What happened
Netflix released a trailer in early October for the eight‑episode series titled The Altruists, which dramatizes the rise and fall of the cryptocurrency exchange FTX. Wang said the trailer’s portrayal of former executives, including Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison and FTX founder Sam Bankman‑Fried, made her feel physically upset.
What was said
"The first 30 seconds were enough to upset me," Wang said to Cointelegraph during an episode of the Chain Reaction X space show. She added that Ellison’s depiction did not match her personal experience and that Bankman‑Fried was shown as more socially awkward than she remembered.
How it came about
Wang served as COO of FTX until its collapse in November 2022, which left an $8.9 billion shortfall in customer funds. The series is set to premiere globally on 19 November 2026.
