French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu called on regional authorities on Monday evening to impose "partial curfews" in cities that experienced riots and looting, France 24 reported.

The unrest over the weekend led to nearly 2,400 arrests, with about 1,000 police officers and gendarmes injured, according to the interior ministry. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said police had "lost control" in several locations, while President Emmanuel Macron promised "full transparency" over the security response.

Protesters, linked to the Yellow Vest movement, had demonstrated against the high cost of living and poor student conditions, sparking fires, the burning of town halls and widespread looting of businesses.
