Series director Naoki Hamaguchi says each Final Fantasy VII remake must stand alone

Director Naoki Hamaguchi calls a standalone experience for each remake a non‑negotiable premise.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Series director Naoki Hamaguchi told Edge Magazine that delivering a "complete experience" in each installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is a non‑negotiable premise. He said the team must avoid assuming future titles will fill gaps, insisting each game should feel whole on its own.

Hamaguchi noted that while the trilogy expands the original 1997 title across multiple parts, the final entry – Final Fantasy VII Revelation – is scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide launch on all platforms on April 8, 2027.

He added that the philosophy guided planning from the outset, ensuring players can enjoy any single game without needing to wait for the next release.
