The FBI and Justice Department announced Wednesday that they have seized two cyber‑attack tools, “Microscan” and “FishHub,” used by a hacking group the agency says is tied to the Chinese government.
What happened
The tools were employed to scan, phish and hack a range of targets, including a U.S. power company, airports in Japan and Poland, Taiwanese universities and critical‑infrastructure firms. The operation rendered the tools inoperable, officials said.
What was said
FBI Cyber Division Deputy Assistant Director Jason Bilnoski told the Associated Press the aim was to “remove the capability from the threat actors,” describing the campaign as “indiscriminate and reckless.” San Diego Supervisory Special Agent Brett Lally said the bureau will keep monitoring the Chinese‑based Integrity Technology Group for any attempts to rebuild its infrastructure.
