Egypt’s National Defence Council announced on Sunday that it will provide "all possible forms of support" to Saudi Arabia as the kingdom faces an escalating wave of missile and drone attacks by Iran‑backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, according to the independent.co.uk report.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by President Abdel‑Fattah el‑Sisi, who earlier called on parliament to authorize the deployment of troops and military equipment abroad. The council’s statement did not specify the type of assistance, only that it would enable Saudi Arabia to defend its security.
Houthi attacks have recently struck Saudi airports and oil facilities, killing at least 19 people and disrupting thousands of flights, while also causing market volatility. On the same day, Saudi defence minister met with the United Arab Emirates president to discuss deeper cooperation, as reported by the UAE news agency WAM.
In Yemen, the Houthi‑run Health Ministry said an airstrike in the rebel‑held Saada province killed nine people, including five children, and wounded 19 others. The Houthi military spokesperson claimed that Saudi‑led forces had carried out 110 missile or airstrike attacks on civilian sites in Sanaa and other cities, a claim the Associated Press could not verify.
Across the border, a Saudi helicopter gunship crashed near Najran, killing its two‑member crew, with Saudi officials attributing the crash to a technical malfunction, though the Houthis later claimed responsibility. A projectile fired by the Houthis also landed in a residential area of Najran province, wounding six people, according to Saudi civil defence authorities.
Egypt’s move follows a month‑old visit by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and comes amid calls from Egyptian officials for parliamentary approval to deploy forces abroad. The announcement aligns with earlier Felo coverage of Egypt’s readiness to aid Saudi defence.
