Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum visited injured Indian flydubai captain Captain Smit Machchhar on Saturday, saying the pilot embodied the UAE’s values of courage and compassion.

Sheikh Hamdan posted on X that the pilot showed “the highest degrees of courage, responsibility, and care for human life” and that the nation is proud of him. The Indian Embassy in the UAE confirmed Machchhar is recovering well under excellent medical care and that it is in touch with his family.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to Machchhar the previous day, praising his bravery after the captain was allegedly stabbed repeatedly by his Omani co‑pilot during a cockpit altercation on flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Machchhar opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers and crew to stabilise the aircraft.
