Actor Anil Kapoor and Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma have praised the trailer of Doosra, an upcoming film inspired by India's 2002 NatWest Series final victory, Gulf News reported.
The film, directed by Abhinay Deo, is slated for theatrical release on October 23. It intertwines the historic moment when former captain Sourav Ganguly waved his shirt at Lord's with the story of Tara, a young girl confronting social constraints in a conservative household.
Kapoor said the trailer "blends two different worlds – reality and fiction seamlessly" and recalled the "euphoria" of the 2002 win, according to the outlet's press release. Sharma, who was 15 at the time of the match, described the victory as more than a cricket triumph, noting the film captures the confidence and comeback spirit of that day.
Director Abhinay Deo explained that the movie explores "freedom through the experiences of a nation and an individual," linking Ganguly's celebration to Tara's personal struggle for emotional freedom. Producer Masha Sajdeh and co‑producer Rohan Sajdeh, along with co‑producer Neeta Shah, aim to entertain while encouraging audiences to question long‑held conventions.
The cast includes Plabita Borthakur, Ankur Vikal, Samidha Guru, Tvisha Seema and Krishna Gokani. The story and screenplay were written by Agnello Oswin Dias, with an original score composed by Ram Sampat.
