Former Indian Administrative Service officer Divya Mittal announced her entry into politics on Tuesday, saying she will start her independent platform in Uttar Pradesh. Mittal, who resigned from the IAS after 13 years of service on August 30, posted a video on X outlining her aim to represent citizens whose complaints often go unheard by the government.
"I want to be the voice of those people whose voices cannot reach any office and, even if they do, are not heard," Mittal said in the video, adding that she will seek an account of the country’s 80 years since independence. She emphasized that she will not join an existing party but will build the platform with like‑minded citizens, rejecting influence of money, muscle power, caste or religion.
Mittal recalled incidents from her administrative career that shaped her decision, including a remote village woman's struggle for a school beyond class 5 despite lacking water at home. She has previously served as district magistrate in Deoria, Mirzapur and Sant Kabir Nagar and is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore.
