Sydney Roosters veteran winger Daniel Tupou announced his retirement on October 7, 2026, after the club’s 28‑23 grand final win over the Newcastle Knights.

Tupou played his 307th and final NRL match in the decider, securing a fourth premiership and cementing his status as the Roosters’ all‑time leading try‑scorer with 198 tries. He debuted in round 24 of the 2012 season and spent his entire 15‑year career at the club.

In a statement reported by SMH, Tupou said he felt “blessed” to have spent his whole career with the Roosters, adding that his faith had been a guiding force. He reflected on the club’s impact on his life, the friendships forged, and the memories he would cherish.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson, also quoted by SMH, praised Tupou’s consistency, selflessness and his role in revolutionising the aerial game, calling him “one of the greats” whose place in club history is assured.

The win also highlighted upcoming roster changes: the Roosters will need two new wingers after Mark Nawaqanitawases returned to rugby union, while Tommy Talau’s contract was recently extended.
