Oscar‑winner Daniel Kaluuya is set to make his New York stage debut in “Grass,” a new play by Tony‑Award‑winning playwright Branden Jacobs‑Jenkins. The Off‑Broadway production will open at the Park Avenue Armory on Feb. 26, according to a Variety press release.
“Grass” follows a mother and son on a surreal road trip through the American South, encountering historical and allegorical figures. The press release calls the work “equal parts fantasia, memory play, and morality play” and a “surreal meditation on the limits of personal, ancestral, and national identity amidst social upheaval.”
Jacobs‑Jenkins reunites with director Sarah Benson and set designer Mimi Lien, while the creative team includes lighting designer Jane Cox, sound designer Bray Poor, and costume designer Enver Chakartash.
Kaluuya, known for “Get Out,” “Black Panther,” and the Oscar‑winning “Judas and the Black Messiah,” has previously performed in London productions such as “Oxford Street” and “Blue/Orange.”
