Actor Anthony Mackie revealed that his close friendship with Chris Evans led to an early look at the Avengers: Endgame script. In an interview with Cigar Aficionado, Mackie recounted how Evans brought the pages to his home and asked if he had read the new scene. "I’m like, ‘Nah, what’s up?’ So, he takes me down…and he gave me the script and let me read it. And it was really great and really emotional to learn it from a friend…" he said.

Mackie, who assumed the role of Captain America after Evans passed the shield in 2019, described the experience as "really great and really emotional". He added that he had not known the details of his character’s arc until that moment, noting that he was "taking his job for all intents and purposes".

Box‑office performance of the re‑release

The 2019 blockbuster returned to cinemas on Friday as a special theatrical re‑release titled Avengers: Endgame Encore. The film earned $26 million domestically and $60 million overseas during its opening weekend, bringing the global total to $86 million. The re‑release pushed the film’s worldwide gross to $2.88 billion, making it the second‑highest‑grossing movie ever.

Evans first portrayed Captain America in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Mackie’s first feature as the superhero came in 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World. The upcoming sequel, Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled for release on 18 December.

Behind the scenes

Mackie highlighted the personal nature of the gesture, saying he did not know many actors who would share such a moment. "I don’t know a lot of actors who would have appreciated or celebrated that moment with a fellow actor in that way because I was taking his job for all intents and purposes," he added.
