Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced his endorsement of independent candidate Seth Bodnar for the Montana Senate seat, according to a campaign statement released on Friday.
Buttigieg said, "The best leaders I've served with, in uniform and in government, care more about getting the job done than about who gets the credit, and Seth is one of them." He added that while they do not agree on everything, Bodnar's background in the Army Green Berets and as president of the University of Montana qualifies him for the role.
Bodnar, 47, said he is honored by the support and noted his intention to remain independent, refusing to caucus with either party if elected.
