Queensland’s Brisbane 2032 organising committee and state officials defended the ongoing emblem treasure‑hunt tour after the final Olympic and Paralympic designs were unintentionally posted on the committee’s YouTube channel on Friday, SMH reported.
What happened
The YouTube video, intended as an "Emblem Explainer" for release on Monday, was made public early Friday, showing the two remaining emblem pieces that were slated for a Gold Coast reveal on Saturday and a final Brisbane reveal on Sunday. After the leak, organisers staged a live reveal of both pieces at Elephant Rock in Currumbin on Saturday morning.
What the reports add
SMH noted that chief marketing officer Brent Hill said the leak generated online trolling as fans tried to locate clues, but he described the overall reaction as "really positive" and said the tour’s purpose was to showcase what the Games will look like. Queensland Sports Minister Tim Mander declined to explain how he learned of the leak, but affirmed that the Brisbane celebration would still occur on Monday.
What was said
Hill told reporters, "From our perspective, we’re just really excited now that the emblems are here, and we’re looking forward to Monday, when we can celebrate with the community." He added, "If we had our time over, maybe there are different ways that we could have done it, but the reaction has been really positive." Mander said, "I just want to reinforce what Brent has said with regards to the reception that we received in the regions. It was really inspiring… Queenslanders will embrace it."
How it came about
The emblem rollout began earlier in October with a series of regional reveals, including the fourth piece unveiled on the Sunshine Coast on 1 October (Felo coverage). The accidental YouTube release forced a shift in the schedule, but officials stress the overall campaign remains on track.
