UConn legend Geno Auriemma warned anyone questioning Breanna Stewart’s postseason value at the 2026 Big East Media Day in New York, saying, “Don’t bet on anybody else other than her.” The comment came as the New York Liberty push toward the WNBA playoffs.
What happened
Auriemma made the remarks on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, during the media event at the Marriott Marquis. He recalled first seeing Stewart play at age 15 and noted her consistent dominance in both regular‑season and knockout games.
What the reports add
The New York Post article notes Auriemma’s comparison of Stewart to Diana Taurasi in terms of winning when it matters. It also lists Stewart’s recent achievements: a perfect 23‑0 March Madness record, three WNBA titles, four World Cup crowns, three EuroLeague championships and three Olympic gold medals.
What was said
“Don’t bet on anybody else other than her,” Auriemma told reporters, according to the Post. Stewart responded on Friday, saying, “Honestly, I know that I’m the best, and I feel that every time I step on the court,” and added that confidence helps her ignore outside judgment.
How it came about
Auriemma’s praise follows Stewart’s recent World Cup MVP award and the Liberty’s late‑season surge, which Felo previously covered in Breanna Stewart’s World Cup MVP Boosts Liberty’s Playoff Push (Sept. 18) and the team’s heavy‑minute usage detailed on Sept. 19.
