BET host and radio personality Angela Stribling died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2026, after a two‑year battle with brain cancer, her husband Ken Washington announced on Instagram.

Stribling, a native of Buffalo, New York, began her career after studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology and working for American Airlines at Baltimore/Washington International Airport. She later hosted BET’s entertainment news program “Screen Scene” and helped launch BET Jazz, anchoring shows such as “Jazz Central,” “Jazz Discovery” and “Jazz Scene.”

In Washington, D.C., she became the first woman to host WHUR‑FM’s “The Original Quiet Storm” and later led the late‑night program “Pillow Talk,” which blended music, relationships and conversation. WHUR general manager Sean Plater praised her voice, presence and kindness in a station tribute.

Stribling was also a classically trained jazz vocalist, performing at venues like the Rainbow Room, the Supper Club and the Soul Cafe, and sharing stages with Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan. Former BET colleague Ed Gordon recalled her role in the Eddie Murphy film “Distinguished Gentlemen” and described her as a “sweet soul.”
