Emma Juggins, a pharmacist who began a new role at a Boots pharmacy in Cheltenham on August 20, was suspended for nine months after colleagues observed her stumbling, slurring her speech and struggling to hand out a prescription on August 25, the Independent reported.

Juggins, who had previously been convicted of drink‑driving in July 2022 for a breath‑alcohol level of 121 microgrammes per 100 ml – more than three times the legal limit – was taken away by a colleague and later appeared before a misconduct panel. The panel cited an "actual or potential risk to patients and the public" as the reason for the suspension.

During the incident, Juggins was wearing the same clothes and flip‑flops she had worn the previous day and told a colleague she had "never taken a drug in her life" but attributed her condition to the Bank Holiday weekend. The Independent noted that she had been working as a locum and responsible pharmacist at the Cheltenham branch at the time.
