The United States‑backed Board of Peace announced a $2.4bn reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip on 23 September, during a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The blueprint, comprising 66 projects, is part of a broader effort to rebuild Gaza after Israeli attacks that have killed seven Palestinians, including a drone strike that killed two people in the al‑Mawasi area near Khan Younis. Board of Peace high representative Nikolay Mladenov said the plan depends on Hamas’s disarmament, following a July agreement on a disarmament document. Al Jazeera’s Kristen Saloomey reported that progress on the ground has been limited and that Israel has not met its commitment to withdraw troops, delaying recovery. Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim Al Khalili noted that the situation is worsening amid ongoing attacks near displacement camps where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians seek refuge.
