Facing the threat of Cyclone Arnab, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cancelled all staff leave until October 30 and instructed agencies to stay on high alert, according to New Indian Express.

Mayor Sulochana Das chaired a meeting on Monday to review preparations, directing drainage, electricity and environment divisions to keep equipment, vehicles, fuel and manpower ready. Authorities were told to remove hoardings and decorative arches at puja pandals within a day, and to lower high‑mast lights if needed while ensuring street lighting on major roads stays operational.

The civic body will identify water‑logging‑prone zones, deploy pumps in advance and have engineers inspect drains, clear obstructions and erect barricades. Power disruptions will be handled by BMC and TPCODL, with complaints routed to helpline 1912. A round‑the‑clock control room is now operational.
