Bengaluru's police network is set for a major overhaul, with five commissionerates and 21 new police stations proposed, The News Minute reported on Oct. 10, 2026.
What happened
The plan calls for Central, North, South, West and East commissionerates, each led by an IGP or DIGP and reporting to the Chief Commissioner of Police. Under the restructure, the city would have 14 law‑and‑order divisions and five traffic divisions, up from the current 11 law‑and‑order and four traffic divisions.
What the reports add
The Finance Department has approved only 11 of the 21 stations so far. Six stations from Bengaluru Rural district – Sarjapura, Jigani, Attibele, Anekal, Bannerghatta and Suryanagar – will move to the Bengaluru South commissionerate, while Kaggalipura will shift to the South commissionerate. New traffic stations are slated for Kothanur, Marathahalli, Avalahalli, Hebbagodi, Attibele, RR Nagar and Madanayakanahalli.
