Bayanda Mncwango will resume a leadership role at Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) as managing director, the company announced on 30 September 2026.
Mncwango returns after a period at Glencore Copper in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he was chief operating officer and director of operations for Kamoto Copper Company before moving into a regional leadership position.
He previously held the chief operating officer post at RBM from 2019 to 2022, overseeing mining, processing, logistics, safety, technical development and strategic planning.
Rio Tinto’s iron and titanium managing director, Sophie Bergeron, said the appointment comes as RBM advances the Zulti South project, its decarbonisation programme and local procurement initiatives. Bergeron thanked acting managing director Wilhemina Ngcobo for her service since July and noted Ngcobo will continue as chief operating officer.
