Kimi Antonelli will not attend the Mexican Grand Prix media day on Thursday after developing a viral illness, according to a statement from Mercedes. The 20‑year‑old, who leads the championship by 123 points, was excused by the FIA to rest ahead of the final race weekend in Mexico City.

Mercedes said the team expects Antonelli to be fit for Friday's two practice sessions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The race, scheduled to start at 20:00 GMT on Sunday, will decide whether Antonelli can clinch the title by finishing ninth or higher.

Antonelli's championship hopes also depend on his teammates: George Russell or Lewis Hamilton must win the race to keep the title fight alive for the next round in Brazil.
