About 30,000 bottles of premium wine worth an estimated €5 million were stolen from Marchesi Antinori’s winery near Cortona, province of Arezzo, on Saturday night, the producer said.

Chief executive Renzo Cotarella told the Independent that a gang of at least seven disabled the alarm and cameras, then used the winery’s forklifts to load two large trucks with bottles of Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso, all from the 2023 vintage.

He described the operation as “very well‑prepared” and suggested it could be the same group that has hit other Italian wineries recently. The stolen bottles, priced between €150 and €500 each, include roughly 10,000 bottles of Solaia.

Antinori is warning customers worldwide to beware of offers outside official sales channels while police and Carabinieri examine surveillance footage and other evidence.
