Anthony Joshua forfeits £10 million to keep Fury fight in the UK

Promoter Eddie Hearn says Joshua turned down an eight‑figure payout to ensure the bout remains at Wales’ Principality Stadium on Dec 11.

Anthony Joshua agreed to forfeit more than £10 million in earnings to keep his long‑awaited heavyweight clash with Tyson Fury in the United Kingdom, promoter Eddie Hearn said.

While Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh, UFC chief Dana White and Netflix pushed for a New York venue, Joshua and Hearn insisted on a British host. Using contractual provisions with Saudi entertainment company Sela, they secured the 80,000‑seat Principality Stadium in Cardiff, selecting it over Wembley because of a curfew restriction.

Hearn explained that Joshua was told to turn down “eight figures plus” to stay in the UK, and Joshua responded, “f*** it, we’ll do it in the UK.” The fight is scheduled for 11 December at the Cardiff arena.
