Doctors and health officials say viral and typhoid fever cases have risen sharply across Andhra Pradesh over the past 15 days, attributing the surge to recent rains, changing weather and possible contamination of drinking water, according to Deccan Chronicle.
Primary health centres that normally see 40‑50 out‑patients a day are now handling 60‑70, with districts such as Rayalaseema, Krishna, Guntur and the East and West Godavari reporting increases. Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme data show Kurnool and YSR Kadapa districts among the hardest hit.
"Earlier, we used to receive around 40 patients a day, but now the number has crossed 60. At least two among every 10 patients are being diagnosed with typhoid," said Dr M Munishekhar of the Kamalapuram urban primary health centre in YSR Kadapa.
APMSIDC general manager Sadhu Srinivas said emergency medicines, including paracetamol and antibiotics, are being stocked statewide and that there is no shortage of supplies.
Patients report long waiting times; one woman from Kosigi waited over three hours for a doctor and another two hours for medicines.
