Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed state officials to stay alert and take precautionary measures as a developing cyclone over the Bay of Bengal threatens heavy rainfall, the New Indian Express reported on Oct. 24.
During a Water Resources Department review at his Undavalli camp office, Naidu ordered the use of incoming rainwater to fill reservoirs and irrigation tanks across coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema districts. He also asked for a comprehensive action plan covering flood, water and disaster management.
The CM directed the restart of the Chintalapudi Lift Irrigation Project in November and set a deadline to make 36 identified priority projects operational by Dec. 2028. He emphasized strengthening the canal network, installing solar panels on canals, and generating revenue through the Jalaharathi Corporation.
Officials told Naidu that 90.2% of civil works on the project were complete, with rapid progress on the main dam’s Gap‑1 and Gap‑2. He also mandated completion of the Polavaram Right and Left Main Canals by March 2027, and urged an action plan to link the Godavari and Pennar rivers and transfer water to the Cauvery.
Additional measures include developing an inland‑water navigation system from Bhadrachalam to Visakhapatnam, extending the second phase of the Jaldhara‑Jalaharathi programme to Mar. 31 as a 150‑day effort, and launching a third phase on Apr. 1, 2027. Naidu also called for rainwater harvesting and increased tank storage.
