Algoa FM marks 40th anniversary with zipline adventure

The South African radio station capped its anniversary with a high‑altitude stunt and a month‑long roadshow tour.

Algoa FM celebrated its 40th anniversary on 28 September 2026 by sending presenters to ride the world’s longest over‑ocean zipline in Mossel Bay. The event was the culmination of a year‑long roadshow that took the station’s on‑air, online and on‑the‑ground presence across the Eastern Cape and Garden Route.

The roadshows, which began in Komani (formerly Queenstown) and moved through locations such as Robert Sobukwe (Graaff Reinet), Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City and George, were designed to showcase the business, lifestyle and community aspects of the station’s operations. Presenters met listeners and advertising partners, and the events were supported by sales consultants and media partners.

Managing director Alfie Jay said the choice of Mossel Bay was intentional, as it anchors the Algoa Country broadcast footprint. He added that the roadshows had resonated positively with the areas visited and that the station was looking forward to measuring the impact of its outreach through the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa.
