President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is prepared to halt attacks on Russian energy facilities if Moscow agrees to a reciprocal ceasefire, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
"We are ready for any kind of format of energy ceasefire" if Russia agrees not to attack Ukraine's energy system, Zelensky told journalists, adding that both Kyiv and Washington want the war to end before winter.
The Ukrainian leader said he does not know Moscow's position and expressed hope that "the American side will find a way… to bring them to any kind of negotiations," according to France24.
Earlier, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Ukraine and Russia had already agreed not to target each other's energy sites, a statement that had not been verified by either side.
