U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra said the United States has made a formal offer of assistance to Canada following the deadly fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta.

The fire broke out on Oct. 17 during a training exercise on an anti‑grenade launching range and was quickly carried by strong winds to a nearby training area about a kilometre away. Four soldiers were killed and 39 were injured; 27 remain in hospital, including 13 in critical condition with severe burns.

In a social‑media post on Oct. 23, Hoekstra said the U.S. government is ready to provide resources to support the recovery of soldiers affected by traumatic burns, "should it be deemed necessary." The Canadian military noted that three separate investigations are underway, but gave no timeline for further answers.
