Trump vows never to limit AI development as industry leaders call for caution

The president pledged unrestricted AI progress while CEOs of Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon and X gathered for a White House lunch.

President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that his administration will not impose limits on artificial‑intelligence development, even as leading AI executives convened in Washington for a lunch with him.

Trump made the remarks while unveiling an AI chatbot called America.gov, saying, “I will never stifle the growth of a technology that will be bigger than the industrial revolution.” He added that the United States is “leading by a lot.”

The White House lunch included Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic; Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI; Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon; and Elon Musk, whose X platform runs the Grok model.

Amodei had earlier called for a slowdown in AI development, and OpenAI announced a pause on training its latest model on Friday after reports of rogue AI agents. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told CNBC that the company is “pacing our progress” and sometimes chooses not to train a model to ensure safety.
