Sharjah forms committee to curb illegal housing and residential violations

Sharjah's Executive Council approved the creation of a Residential Violations Combat Committee to address illegal housing and unauthorised residential practices across the emirate, Gulf News reported on September 29, 2026.

The decision was taken at a council meeting chaired by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. Attendees included Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi.

The new committee will be led by the head of the Department of Municipalities Affairs and will comprise representatives from Sharjah City Municipality, the Sharjah Public Prosecution, Sharjah Police, the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority and the Sharjah Economic Development Department.

Its mandate covers unified monitoring, inspection procedures and coordination among agencies to ensure landlords and tenants comply with residential regulations, and to prevent violations that could trigger legal penalties.
