On Oct. 3, a Samajwadi Party (SP) press conference in Gorakhpur was disrupted when supporters of former district president Nagina Sahani and party leader Anshuman Singh fought over seating, PTI reported.
The meeting, convened by SP district president Brijesh Gautam at the Journalists Press Club, was meant to brief media on the party’s “Loktantra Bachao Saptah” campaign running Oct. 2‑8. Around 2:45 pm, Anshuman Singh arrived with his supporters seeking seats, prompting an argument that escalated into a scuffle. Video later posted on social media showed Sahani being slapped by Kamlesh Singh, Anshuman’s son.
Party functionaries intervened, separating the groups. Anshuman Singh said the incident was being used to tarnish his image and alleged rivals were creating controversy. Sahani accused Singh’s supporters of assault, intimidation and bringing illegal weapons. District president Gautam said the matter would be reported to SP president Akhilesh Yadav for further action, while local leader Kajal Nishad called the incident “regrettable” and urged restraint.
