American filmmaker Sam Pollard has been named president of the official competition jury for this year’s BFI London Film Festival, the outlet reported on September 30.

Pollard, whose career includes a Peabody, an Emmy, an Academy Award nomination and the International Documentary Association’s Career Achievement Award, will oversee the jury that selects the festival’s best‑film winner. His recent directing work includes the Berlinale‑awarded documentary Tutu and the 2025 film I Was Born This Way.

British‑Egyptian actor Amir El‑Masry will head the first‑feature competition (Sutherland Award) jury, joined by producer Alemberg Ang and sales executive Rosa Bosch. The documentary competition’s Grierson Award jury will be led by writer Sandhya Suri.

Pollard said he was “very surprised” and “over the moon” to be asked to serve as jury president, adding that he looks forward to weighing in on the films screened.
