Sale Sharks defeated Harlequins 28-24 at CorpAcq Stadium in Salford on Tuesday, according to the Independent. The match turned on a 73rd‑minute penalty try that gave Sale the edge after a tightly contested first half.
Harlequins started strongly, taking a 17-14 lead into the break. Hooker Sam Riley scored in the third minute, and a second try from Marcus Smith, set up by George Furbank, extended the lead. Sale responded before halftime when Elia Canakaivata, on his Premiership debut, crossed for a try, and Gus Warr added a score two minutes before the interval.
In the second half, Harlequins added a bonus‑point try through Riley in the 53rd minute, while Sale’s Ben Bamber broke through after Nicky Smith’s initial surge. A crucial line‑out steal by Courtney Lawes gave Harlequins a chance, but Sale’s pack dominated the closing minutes, driving Harlequins back 30 metres before Riley was sin‑binned, leading to the penalty try that sealed the win.
The result marks Sale’s fifth consecutive league victory over Harlequins and their third straight win of the Gallagher Premiership season, following earlier triumphs over Saracens and a narrow win against Bristol. Harlequins, who suffered a 48-0 loss to Gloucester the previous weekend, remain at the bottom of the table.
