Russia’s latest strike on Kyiv used new fast, high‑flying drones and ballistic missiles, challenging Ukraine’s air defences.

Russia fired ballistic missiles and dozens of jet‑powered drones at Kyiv on Tuesday, according to Ukraine’s air force. The new drones fly too fast and high for Ukrainian ground‑based air defences to shoot down, while the ballistic missiles have breached Ukraine’s limited Patriot stockpile. Ukraine said it shot down two ballistic missiles overnight, suggesting it had recently received additional Patriots. The attack also hit data processing centres, drone and cruise‑missile storage facilities, an electrical substation, a drone manufacturing plant and port infrastructure in the southern Odesa region. In Kyiv, the barrage struck apartment buildings, houses and public transport, wounding one person. In Odesa, eight people were wounded and residential buildings, a school, an animal shelter and port infrastructure were damaged.
