Olivia Rodrigo announced a remix of her song “Expectations” featuring Chappell Roan, posting an Instagram photo of the duo on a yellow car and confirming the music video will be released on Thursday, Variety reported.

What happened

Rodrigo shared the announcement on Tuesday, October 13, posting a picture of herself and Roan beside a vehicle with the license plate “XPECT8NS.” The caption read, “Beyond excited to announce ‘expectations’ featuring Chappell Roan!!! song and video out Thursday!!!!” The remix is the 12th track on Rodrigo’s third album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.”

What the reports add

Variety noted that rumors of a remix began after a German retailer briefly listed the single for sale on Sunday before removing it. The next day, Rodrigo posted an Instagram story audio clip of a female voice saying, “Ooh, Olivia does remixes now,” which Daily Times identified as likely Roan’s voice. Daily Times added that fans had already speculated the track could be “Expectations” based on its repeated lyric “I’ve got big expectations.”

What was said

Rodrigo’s Instagram caption, quoted by Variety, expressed her excitement about the collaboration. No other direct quotes from the artists appear in the sources.

How it came about

Rodrigo and Roan have a history of touring together, with Roan supporting Rodrigo on both the “Sour” and “Guts” tours. They share producer Dan Nigro and both have won Grammy awards for Best New Artist. Roan performed at Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival in Irvine, California, in late August, an event Rodrigo curated. Felo’s earlier coverage on October 12 reported a leak suggesting a joint release on October 16, but neither artist had confirmed the collaboration at that time.
