Twenty‑three of the 30 NBA general managers surveyed said San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will capture his first MVP award this season, while the same poll named the Spurs as the league's likely champions. The results were released Thursday by NBA.com’s John Schuhmann as part of the 25th Annual NBA GM Survey, which asked GMs 48 questions about the upcoming 2026‑27 season.

Wembanyama topped the MVP vote with 23 votes, followed by Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić (3 votes) and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards (2 votes). The Spurs also led the championship vote with 15 votes, ahead of the Oklahoma City Thunder (13 votes). The survey listed Memphis Grizzlies forward Cameron Boozer as the favorite Rookie of the Year, receiving 15 votes, with Chicago Bulls forward Caleb Wilson in second place (6 votes).

When asked which team made the best offseason moves, the Philadelphia 76ers received 22 votes, largely due to the addition of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, according to the poll. Other notable votes included Miami Heat for best head coach (Erik Spoelstra) and the Milwaukee Bucks guard Brayden Burries as the biggest draft steal.

The survey also highlighted the Spurs' recent performance: Wembanyama averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks last season, leading San Antonio to a 62‑win Western Conference title. The Thunder, who won 64 games last year, finished a seven‑game series short of the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.

The NBA season opens on Tuesday with a triple‑header featuring the New York Knicks hosting the 76ers, who will debut James and Brown together.
