Michael Porter Jr. says he must keep winning as Nets contract talks continue

Porter Jr. and GM Sean Marks discuss consistency, defense and intangibles amid pending deal.

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. told reporters that winning is his top priority as the team negotiates a new contract, according to the New York Post.

Porter, who is on a $40.8 million expiring deal, said, “The main thing is winning. Who cares about putting up 20‑plus points a game if you’re not winning? So I think I’ve got a lot more I want to show and prove.” He added that he is “excited to play basketball and get the season rolling.”

Nets general manager Sean Marks said the club is looking for “consistency” from Porter, as well as improvement on the defensive end, rebounding and “intangibles” in the locker room. Marks emphasized that the coaching staff deserves credit for the team's overall progress.

Porter became extension‑eligible on July 6 and can sign a contract worth up to $234 million over four years, though the exact figure remains unsettled.
