Medshield Medical Scheme said on 29 September 2026 that its 2027 benefit options will include a 7.9% weighted average contribution increase and a range of new or expanded benefits.

The scheme reports that 125,603 members will see contribution rises between 6% and 7.9%, while membership grew 4.5% in 2025 and continued to improve in 2026.

New benefits for 2027 include extending the child dependant age from 21 to 24 years, removing or reducing selected co‑payments, enhancing mental health coverage, adding AI‑driven diabetic retinal screening, and launching a Hospital‑at‑Home service with Mediclinic. Additional programmes cover innovative oncology co‑funding, integrated chronic‑care management and expanded MediCurve and MediPhila benefits.

Kevin Aron, principal officer of Medshield, said the scheme aims to keep private healthcare affordable amid a challenging economy while balancing medical inflation and long‑term sustainability.

Medshield also announced a distribution agreement with Sanlam, positioning the scheme as a preferred healthcare partner and promising members greater access to wellness, gap cover, financial planning and insurance services.
