Kylian Mbappé scored two goals as Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, reducing the points gap to three in La Liga, Al Jazeera reported.

What happened

Mbappé opened the scoring before halftime, converting a cross that Gerard Martin cleared straight to the French striker, who deflected it into the net for his 10th league goal of the season. Barcelona equalised after the hour when Raphinha fed the Brazilian top scorer, who slipped the ball through Andriy Lunin’s legs. Mbappé restored Madrid’s lead later in the second half with a low finish, securing the win.

What the report adds

The article notes that Real Madrid played without suspended winger Vinícius Júnior and without Thibaut Courtois, who missed the match due to flu. Andriy Lunin started in goal for Madrid after Courtois’s absence. Barcelona suffered a defensive setback when young defender Xavi Espart was forced off with injury and replaced by Alejandro Balde before the half‑hour mark. The match marked Barcelona’s first domestic defeat of the campaign after a nine‑game winning streak.

What was said

Barcelona midfielder Pedri told DAZN, “In general we didn’t have a great game, in the first half we weren’t ourselves, there were a lot of things we could have done better.” The quote is attributed to Pedri via Al Jazeera.

How it came about

Real Madrid entered the clash third in the table, six points behind league leaders Barcelona, after a recent 4-1 win over Sevilla in which Mbappé also scored twice. The victory at Camp Nou follows a period of instability for Madrid, including a loss to Atletico Madrid on 20 September and fan doubts about Lunin’s readiness after Courtois’s flu setback, as covered in earlier Felo News pieces.
