Mayor Mamdani’s antisemitism plan omits Zionism and a formal definition

The plan, drafted with an anti‑Zionist Jewish group, allocates $1 million for security but leaves key issues unaddressed.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is set to launch a plan to combat antisemitism on Tuesday, but the blueprint, drawn up with the anti‑Zionist Jewish group Jews for Racial & Economic Justice, will not define anti‑Jewish hate or address Zionism, the New York Post reports. The mayor will announce the plan via a video at 11 a.m., a departure from a traditional press conference. The proposal includes $1 million for security across all places of worship and a Title 6 coordinator for NYC schools, but critics say it falls short on both funding and scope. Phylisa Wisdom, Mamdani’s antisemitism czar, said the plan would not touch on “political ideology” but would address hate crimes based on origin. A Jewish lawmaker criticised the omission, saying Zionism is a core part of Jewish identity. The plan also does not address the use of anti‑Zionism as a shield for antisemitic behaviour in schools or workplaces. Lawmakers have called the security budget negligible and the plan “fluff.”
